Beaulieu has never had an official archivist …but for as long as she has been involved with the school, and that is now over 50 years, Sister Marie Louise has unofficially fulfilled this post. Visitors have often expressed amazement at her collection of photos, press cuttings and programmes. Many of the school’s regular events such as prizegivings and garden fetes feature in her collection, along with special occasions like the Opening of a new building or a Visit from a dignitary.
This wealth of memorabilia has been very useful in recent months as we in the Development Office have been attempting to contact former pupils to ask them to register with the Foundation and also when finding the names of the Head Girl Honours Board.
We should very much like to continue the work that Sister has done so diligently over the years. If you have any archive material that you think we might like, please send it to us, in either original form or copy. Old photos can be scanned and sent by email. Please supply names and dates where possible. And of course we should like to receive all your up-to-date news which will become the next chapter in the History of Beaulieu.
We should be most grateful to receive your help on this project. |

Beaulieu Past Pupil Olivia chases golf dream |
|
Twenty-two year old Olivia Jordan-Higgins is getting ready to chase her dream to become a professional golfer. After finishing her BSE in sports science she will attempt to qualify at two stages in Florida in September and December. Only the top thirty ladies will get their card. She plans to return to Jersey after this to travel from Jersey to any major tournaments.
Last September she gained a new coach who is improving her physical and mental game. This summer after graduation from Charleston University, South Carolina she will be aiming to compete in as many amateur competitions as possible.
Prior to this, Olivia's college competes against twelve other schools in a big tournament which Charleston have won and come second in the last two years. Olivia has also got a second and a third in two other main events in South and North Carolina. Olivia quotes 'I never wanted to go to university but I'm glad I did. I've got so much more out of it than I thought I would and I've loved the lifestyle and the golf courses, where you can play in the sun all year round. It's not quite like that in Jersey!'

Great schools are living, vibrant communities, that evolve to meet the challenges of tomorrow by learning from the past. Beaulieu the name given to the home of Francois Bertram in 1824 who was a local business man who chose to build himself a gentleman's residence with its fine architectural features laid the foundations for what is now one of the most successful schools in Jersey. The school was formed through a rich tradition enhanced by the vision, love and service of the Sisters of the Order of the Immaculate Conception in 1951. The presence of Sr. Marie Louise who still today moves through the school like the Holy Spirit is a continual remainder to all who pass her by of this commitment and service. The many years of loyal and dedicated leadership of Rosemary Hill as Headmistress have served to build and form the school community into a very special place to work and learn. I have been fortunate to inherit a fabulous school and have seen over the past year at Beaulieu a caring face of academic excellence - where the dream to educate the whole person in a caring educational environment is not an aspirational notion but a reality. Although the ethos of the school is rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition students from other religious denominations and faiths are made welcome in an inclusive community where girls are encouraged to enjoy their school life so that they are ready and able to play a full and responsible part in the wider community. Catholic Schools within our Island have contributed significantly over the years to the formation of so many students, that their place in the Island provision was safeguarded in the 1999 Education Act where described as private schools they formed part of the formal educational provision on offer to parents and students of our Island. Although these schools are driven by distinctive characteristics and are uniquely different in character, they fuse together to provide a unity in their diversity offering Jersey an approach to learning and formation which is undertaken in a Christian environment driven by Gospel values that seeks to enrich all for life. We are currently entering a period of potential change once again in our educational world, where our current practice is being examined in the light of the needs of the commercial world and of society as whole. There are development challenges we will need to embrace, cautiously and at an appropriate pace but always with the desire to seek to provide the best possible learning experiences enabling Beaulieu girls to achieve their full potential. Parents wish simply the best for their children and those of us in the driving seat of change wish the same. As we move forward to craft the next phase of our rich History we welcome you through the Foundation as partners with us in seeking to achieve the best for those in our care and we trust that the Lord who has begun this good work in us all will bring it to fulfilment. |
